Overview
SnipThat is designed as a local research companion. The extension stores your notes, categories, screenshots, OCR text, copied text, settings, and UI state locally in your browser using IndexedDB. No information is transmitted to any external server.
What data is stored locally
- Note content (text and images)
- Screenshots and OCR results
- Copied text you choose to insert
- Source URLs and page titles
- Timestamps and creation dates
- Category names and assignments
- Pinned status and filters
- Theme, sidebar state, and other UI preferences
All of the above is stored only on your device using the browser’s IndexedDB API.
Data sharing
SnipThat does not sell, share, or transmit your data. The extension does not include analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or any form of remote logging. There are no third-party SDKs embedded in the extension.
Permissions
SnipThat requests only the permissions necessary to function:
- activeTab — to capture content from the current tab when you explicitly trigger a capture
- storage — to persist notes and settings locally
- scripting — to inject the sidebar and capture logic into the active tab
User control
You have full control over your data at all times:
- Export a full backup from Settings → Export All Data
- Clear all extension data from Settings → Clear All Data
- Import Backup — coming in a future update
Clearing browser storage or uninstalling the extension also removes all locally stored data.
Children
SnipThat is a general-purpose browser tool. It does not knowingly collect data from or target users under the age of 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy is updated, the effective date above will change. Significant changes will be noted in the Changelog.
